Apartment in exclusive historic military fort
Our home is an apartment located in a wooded and secluded area. It's on the grounds of a 17th century military fort. Many of the buildings are historic monuments which were converted into residences in 2021. We live on the ground floor and we have a terrace in the front which looks out on the village green and pedestrian area. We have a garden at the back which looks out on a park and woods.
Our apartment is decorated and furnished to a high standard and is very suitable for singles or couples.
On the grounds of our fort we have a hotel and food hall with a local pub, restaurants, bakery, pizzeria, ice cream parlour and small brewery.

Our fort is surrounded by two areas of outstanding natural beauty. One is marshland and the other Dutch polders that provide walking paths into the lovely town of 's-Hertogenbosch, locally known as Den Bosch.
The medieval centre of our provincial capital, 's-Hertogenbosch, is ten minutes' distance by bike. The Netherlands has an extensive bicyclepath network.
Den Bosch is the most popular destination in the Netherlands with day-trippers in search of medieval buildings (e.g. St. Jan's Cathedral), museums, shops and restaurants.
Worth a visit here just around the corner is the former WWII concentration camp Kamp Vught, now an interesting museum.
The train station is just 10 minutes by bike and trains from here will get you to all parts of the country.
More information can be found on the website of the fort i.e. www.fortisabella.nl

About Our Family
We are a couple with two grown-up children and five grandchildren. Anita is a retired secondary school principal and Austin is a retired lecturer at a teacher training college. We are very experienced home exchangers and have exchanged with families many times. When the children were young we used to exchange each summer, mainly with the USA and Great Britain. Now our children have their own families. Our son lives in the university town of Nijmegen (35 km) with his family (2 grandsons and 1 granddaughter) whereas our daughter's family (1 granddaughter and 1 grandson) are just down the road here in Vught. Our daughter Claire is nearby for any assistance you may need.
As we are retired, we are now able to travel more and at any time. Therefore we are open to all suggestions!
Lifestyle
Now that we are retired, we have decided to pick up home exchanging again! When our kids were young we used to do it each summer. We love cycling and there are plenty beautiful and safe bicycle paths in the Netherlands. Four electric bikes are part of the exchange. We are keen theatre and cinema goers and we enjoy the numerous restaurants near our fort. Three cinemas and a lot of shops are close by in the town of 's-Hertogenbosch. Within about an hour's drive are the cities of Antwerp in Belgium and Cologne in Germany. Very much worth a visit too!
