House in quiet family friendly neighborhood close to a lake
We have traveled a lot and love to visit new places and get to know new countries and places. We are a family of four and we are going to take good care of your home! We are open to any destination, just contact us if you are interested to exchange with us.
We live in Heddesheim its a small city between Mannheim and Heidelberg. Its quiet and very family friendly neighborhood. We have a new built (2018) three-story house with 3 bedrooms (one Masterbedroom and two Kidsroom). There is enough space for 4-5 adults to sleep in our House.
We have two kids both are very happy boys. Because of the kids we have almost everything you need for a small kid (bed, highchair etc.). We have two turtles who live in our garden. During summer time we kindly ask you to take care of them - change the water and pick some greens.
From where we live you can walk (5 minutes) to the Lake - nice for swimming in the Summer time. Within a 1 minute walk you can reach a big nice playground. Within a 5 minute walk you reach a bakery, grocery shops and other small shops where you get everything you need. Within a 10 Minute drive you can reach Weinheim a nice old town. After 15-20 Minutes with the car you can reach Mannheim or Heidelberg. There is so much you can do in this area.
Other thinks to do around here:
- the Pfalz, the most famous wine region in Germany is only 30 minutes away
- Frankfurt is only a 45 minute drive
- France - wonderful city of Strasbourg is only a 1 1/2 hours drive
- Karlsruhe is 45 minutes away
- Stuttgart you can reach within 1 1/2 hours
and many more great thinks to explore.

Neighborhood
About the neighborhood
Discover the heart of Europe’s Rhine-Neckar region, where Heddesheim serves as your idyllic base. Nestled between the lush Odenwald forest and the sun-drenched Rhine plain, this area offers a perfect blend of historic charm, modern city life, and world-class wine culture.
Heddesheim: Your Gateway to Relaxation
Heddesheim itself is a hidden gem for those who love nature and tranquility. Its picturesque landscape is dotted with vineyards and fruit orchards, making it a paradise for leisurely walks or cycling.
• The Heddesheimer See (lake) is a local favorite, offering swimming, mini-golf, and large playgrounds.
The Big Three: Mannheim, Heidelberg & Frankfurt
Within a short drive or train ride, you can experience three of Germany’s most distinct cities:
• Heidelberg (The Romantic): Famous worldwide for its majestic Castle and the Old Bridge. Seniors will enjoy the funicular railway (Bergbahn) that goes up the mountain, while families can visit the Heidelberg Zoo. Don't miss a stroll down the Hauptstraße, one of Europe's longest pedestrian zones.
• Mannheim (The City of Squares): Known for its unique grid layout, Mannheim is a hub for culture. Visit the Luisenpark—voted one of Europe’s most beautiful parks—where you can ride in "Gondoletta" boats. For tech enthusiasts, the Technoseum offers interactive history for all ages.
• Frankfurt (The Main-Metropolis): A city of contrasts. You can explore the Römerberg (the historic old town) and then look up at "Mainhattan," Germany’s only skyscraper skyline. The Palmengarten (botanical garden) and the Städel Museum are must-sees for a cultured afternoon.
Wine, Culture, and the Great Outdoors
The proximity to the Pfalz (Palatinate) region adds a Mediterranean flair to your stay.
• The German Wine Route: Just across the Rhine, you’ll find the world’s largest Riesling-growing region. Visit towns like Bad Dürkheim (home to the world's largest wine barrel) for wine tastings and traditional hospitality.
• The Odenwald & Bergstraße: To the east, the hills are covered in medieval castles like the Strahlenburg in Schriesheim, offering panoramic views of the Rhine valley.
Day Trips & Regional Facts
Because of its central location, Heddesheim is the perfect "Base Camp" for exploring further afield:
• France (Alsace): In just over an hour, you can reach the French border. Visit Strasbourg to see the stunning cathedral or Wissembourg for a quaint French lunch.
• Speyer: A short trip south leads you to the Speyer Cathedral (a UNESCO World Heritage site) and the Technik Museum, which features a real Boeing 747 and space shuttle—a huge hit for kids and grandparents alike.
Whether you are looking for a peaceful retreat in the vineyards or an active family holiday exploring castles and museums, the area around Heddesheim offers a richness and variety that is hard to match anywhere else in Germany.

Vlotte en mooie ruil. Vriendelijke, behulpzame mensen.
They are a very friendly family and very easy to communicate with regarding plans and any problems that might arise. Their home was represented very accurately and it was very comfortable for 5 people. We enjoyed the town, easy to walk for groceries, the bakery and the lake. The lake was a beautiful place to spend the afternoon.
