Our Neighbourhood
Nearest Airport: Brussels - 20 km
Leuven (Louvain in French) is an ancient capital, a prominent brewing centre and Flanders’ oldest university town. In term time, and even during holidays, some 25,000 students give the city an upbeat, creative air. The picturesque core is small enough that you could easily see the sights in a short trip, but characterful pubs and good-value dining could keep you here for weeks!
Leuven is located approximately 15 minutes' drive from the Belgian National Airport of Zaventem. The airport has its own train station with direct trains to Leuven (15 minutes).
Leuven is easy to reach by train from all Belgian and European cities. The station is very close to our house (5 minutes walk).
Leuven is a 20-minute train ride from Brussels, 50 minutes from Antwerp, 30 minutes from Liège and 1 hour from Bruges and the Belgian coast. If you take the Eurostar or the Thalys (high-speed trains) you can be in Paris in 1.5 hours and in London, Amsterdam or Cologne in 2.5 hours.
Near our house is a park for families (Provinciedomein Kessel-Lo, free entrance) located with:
• playgrounds
• an open air swimming pool
• a pond with rowing and pedal boats
• sportgrounds: tennis, volleybal, basketbal, skating, football
many walking opportunities.
