Welcome to California!

Greetings Intervac Friends,

We are BIG fans of home exchange! We love living in your communities, meeting your neighbors, and discovering the beauty, the history and all there is to see and do in your part of the world. And we're so happy to have you and your family staying in our home, going to the beach and exploring San Diego, Southern California and beyond. Isn't it the best way to vacation?

Our Home
The home is clean, uncluttered, and relaxing.  You'll be able to settle in quickly and go to the beach!  There are 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, and a great room downstairs that includes a lounge, dining areas and kitchen. The back patio has a grill and dining table and places to relax in shade and sun.

We are just four miles from downtown Encinitas, Moonlight Beach, and the train station. Trains run south to San Diego and north to Orange County, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Francisco and beyond. We're about 20 miles north of San Diego, La Jolla, and Coronado.

Our Car
We have a 2017 Honda CRV which seats five comfortably and has plenty of space for luggage or camping equipment.

Our Community
Encinitas, home of the Surfing Madonna!  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surfing_Madonna
We live in the beach community of Encinitas, California, 20 miles north of San Diego. Our town has been known for flower growing and surfing for decades. It is a great place to enjoy beaches, parks, lagoon hiking, and relaxing. ( http://www.ci.encinitas.ca.us/index.aspx?page=290 )  And it is a perfect jumping-off point for day trips to all the sights in southern California.

Previous exchange partners have visited the sights in San Diego:
- USS Midway Museum (Doug is a docent on the ship, so you'll have free tickets!)
- Balboa Park: San Diego Zoo, Space Museum, Natural History Museum and Old Globe Theater
- Children's Museum downtown
- Old Town - our Spanish heritage!
- Coronado
- Scripps Institute of Oceanography Aquarium in La Jolla
- Sea World
- Beaches, Beaches, Beaches

Anaheim - 70 miles north - the original Disneyland.
Los Angeles - 100 miles north - the Getty Museums in Malibu and so many other attractions, is 2 hours north
Palm Springs, Santa Barbara, Monterey, Big Sur and San Francisco are all within reach.

Exchange partners have also traveled to National and State Parks like Yosemite, Big Sur, Death Valley, Kings Canyon, Joshua Tree and Sequoia.
The Grand Canyon in Arizona, and beautiful Bryce and Zion National Parks in Utah are within reach, and Las Vegas is on the highway to these natural wonders.

There is so much to enjoy in this area.  Let's talk about your vacation to Southern California and beyond!

About Our Family

Doug and I are retired from being business owners, corporate trainers, and Susie's work as an event manager for an educational non-profit.  Our "retirement jobs" include Doug's work as a docent on the USS Midway Museum in San Diego - he'll leave you tickets so you can visit the ship for free - and Susie's outreach projects at church. And both of us work for the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. It's sort of an acting job. We portray patients with specific medical conditions so the medical students can practice their interviewing and diagnostic skills with real, live people.

We love travel (of course!), theater, museums, touring historic areas, seeing how local products are made, and discovering the local wonders wherever we visit.  Then we like to retreat to a quiet place to relax, read our books and enjoy nature.  We’d love to discover the local wonders in your community!
