Neighborhood
About the neighborhood
Penistone is a small South Yorkshire market town 15 miles north of Sheffield and close to the boundary with West Yorkshire. It is ideally positioned for exploring the Peak District National Park and offers a good mix of easy rural walking in the immediate vicinity and spectacular wild moorland a short drive (or a good hike!) away. Also close by is the attractive town of Holmfirth (of 'Last of the Summer Wine' TV fame), the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, and the National Museum of Mining (a preserved former colliery with underground tours).
Nearest Airport: Manchester (MAN)

We were particularly keen to spend as much time as possible exploring Bath, as our daughter who accompanied us is a keen historian; and we were a bit concerned that Sarah and Steve's home was some distance out in the country. In the event, however, it worked out extremely well for us, as rather than drive several miles into Bath and then have to find parking (and pay a congestion charge as well), on their recommendation we used the park & ride which was just a short, easy drive from their house, the parking was free and the bus ran every 15 minutes and only took ten minutes or so to get right into the centre of the town, Smooth, easy, and totally stress-free! The house itself was cosy and comfortable, and their cat, Simba, was an absolute sweetheart, despite being quite elderly. The countryside round about is pleasant too, with good walking; and (again on Sarah and Steve's recommendation) we really enjoyed the White Hart pub at Ford. Just the other side of Ford is the classic old village of Castle Coombe (but don't expect to park there, use the large car park half a mile outside the village and explore it on foot!) Thanks for a great exchange Sarah and Steve!
Excellent communications, everything went very smoothly, really enjoyed our exchange and hope we can do a repeat some time soon!
It was several years ago, but only just saw this feedback form! Anyway, it was a fabulous exchange, and a gorgeous property in a great location. Many thanks to Anne and Tony!
