HOUSE IN THE BORDEAUX VINEYARD (+ HOUSE IN CAPBRETON)

 Bonjour !

We are a couple in their sixties. We are sporty and art lovers.
We like discovering new places and meeting new people. That's why we have been exchanging our house as well as our holiday house on the coast for more than 30 years.

We live in a rural area, 3 kms away from Langon, in the middle of the vineyard and our house overlooks the hills on the other side of the Garonne River.
It is spacious.
Downstairs, there is a big open space with two different levels. It includes the hall, the dining room, the lounge, the kitchen, a double bedroom with en-suite and toilets. There is also a utility room for the laundry and a garage.
Upstairs, there are three double bedrooms, a TV room (with two sofas converting into beds), a bathroom and toilets.
The garden is big (5,500 m2) and it gives onto the neighbours'vineyard. We have a vegetable garden in which we mostly grow tomatoes.
We also have a semi-inground pool, the soil being very chalky.

It takes 25 minutes by train to reach Bordeaux and 45 minutes to go to Merignac, Bordeaux's airport.
We usually swap our Renault Captur with partners living overseas.
Langon is a typical southern town. There are about 10,000 inhabitants. As it is a sub-prefecture, there are two hospitals, two cinemas (a multiplex and an art-house cinema), a bowling, two swimming pools, two riding stables, a golf course, a big cultural centre, an ancient music academy, a lot of restaurants, wine bars as well as a lot of supermarkets and shops.
There are many places to visit around Langon as well as in the Gironde Department. But there are also beautiful places to visit in Lot-et-Garonne and Dordogne which are two neighbouring departments.
Just have a look :

We usually lend our holiday house to our partners in summer, for about a week, so that they can discover another part of nouvelle Aquitaine. The house is in Capbreton and it still belongs to my parents. It is very convenient to explore the Basque Country. (Bayonne, Biarritz, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Ainoha, Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port)
There are many beautiful sand beaches and a big marine lake. This semi-detached house is in the pine forest, in a residential neighbourhood, next to Hossegor golf.
It is perfect for up to 6 people.
Downstairs, there is an open space with the kitchen, the dining-room and the lounge as well as 2 double bedrooms, toilets and a bathroom.
Upstairs, there is an en-suite bedroom with a small bathroom as well as a mezzanine with a double bed.
Outside, there is a utility room with a cooker and a washing machine.
There is a small front garden and a back garden in which we enjoy having lunch or dinner in summer time.

Our Neighbourhood

Nearest Airport: Bordeaux-Mérignac - 45 minutes

St Pierre and Langon are very close to Sauternes (10 minutes), its wine châteaux and its famous restaurants. The places to visit around Langon are Roquetaillade Castle in Mazères, two medieval towns (Bazas and Saint Macaire), Verdelais and Malagar Estate which used to be François Mauriac's property and still belongs to the Mauriac Family/and château Malromé where Toulouse Lautrec's Mum used to live and where Toulouse is buried, Cazeneuve Castle (Le château de Cazeneuves), Arcachon, Le Bassin d'Arcachon and La dune du Pyla, Saint Emilion, a gorgeous medieval town very famous for its wines and restaurants, La Réole, another medieval village, La Brède and Montesquieux Castle, L'abbaye de la Sauve Majeur (a medieval place).
Bordeaux is a beautiful 18th century city. There are plenty of things to do there (walking along the Garonne river, shopping, eating out, visiting museums, attending concerts or going to the theatre).
Further away, you can visit Le Médoc and its wonderful châteaux (Châtau Margaux). It is really gorgeous, too.
Our region is very famous for its wine and its food.
In Langon, there is a market every Friday and Sunday morning in Langon and every Saturday in Bazas. You can buy excellent food and wine there. Farm producers have also opened a shop where they sell their products (vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs, fruit juice and cheese).

Lifestyle

We enjoy reading, going out (cinema, theatre, concerts) and travelling. We have visited a lot of countries and we are used to swapping houses. We've made very good friends in the USA, Greece and Canada thanks to Intervac. We always take good care of our partners' dwelling places.
