House in Cobourg, Canada
Sherri and I are retired teachers who have done a lot of travelling, much of it as WOOFERs. From these experiences we have learnt that we like to get to know the community we visit and the people who live there. Our first home exchanges have been very positive experiences in that regard and we are very interested in doing more exchanges
Our home is located in a quiet neighbourhood in Cobourg, Ontario. We are within walking distance of the downtown shopping area, a small mall with a food store and Cobourg's lovely huge sandy beach and park. We have two bicycles which can be used for exploring the rest of the town and the local area.
We have a small, comfortable home which has a large open area kitchen, living room and dining room which makes a perfect place to cook and chat all at the same time. The master bedroom on the main floor has one queen sized bed and the second bedroom on the upstairs floor has a double bed. On the main floor you will find a full bathroom and, in a separate area, the washing machine. Upstairs has a small two piece bathroom. In the basement we have a TV/Computer room with a gas “woodstove”.
The backyard is quite private and has outside seating, a table with umbrella for eating and a charcoal barbeque. We also have a large vegetable garden in the back as well as two community allotment plots. As we are looking for an autumn exchange all the work in the vegetable gardens will have been done but you will be able to enjoy the produce!
Ours is a non-smoking home and we do not have any pets.
Cobourg itself, is a small town of about 18,000 situated on the shore of Lake Ontario. Victoria Park with its huge beach is a favourite destination for both local residents and visitors. There are also cafés, pubs, a cinema, theatre and interesting stores in the historic downtown area.
This is also an excellent location for exploring much of southern Ontario, as you can be in downtown Toronto (Canada’s largest city) in 1 ½ hours, in Niagara Falls in 2 ½ hours and in Ottawa (Canada’s capital) in 3 ½ hours.
We are also only just over an hour from Prince Edward County and its wineries, artisans and excellent restaurants. In the Niagara region you will not only find the famous Niagara Falls, but one of Canada’s oldest wine regions, beautiful parks, historical sites and the Shaw Festival.
Other destinations which are a little further include Montreal (6 hours), Quebec City (8 hours) or for outdoor enthusiasts, Algonquin Provincial Park (5 hours). There are other Provincial Parks much closer, Algonquin is just the largest and most rugged.
We have our exchanges booked for 2018 but are interested in exchanges to England and Wales for 2019. We are flexible with dates and length of exchanges but are looking at mid-May to end of September for exchanges of 2 - 3 weeks.
