Uptown condo

We live in a 2 bedroom, 2 ensuite bathroom condo in an 1890's building on the St. Charles street car line. It is the oldest street car in North America. One bedroom doubles as an office where we have a sofa bed with a comfortable memory foam mattress.

The shared front porch is spacious. The condo has original hard wood floors, tall windows, high ceilings and soft natural light.

The home is located inside the city just six miles from the French Quarter in the Uptown/Universities neighborhood known for its stately old houses, evergreen gardens, majestic live oak trees, and parks. The streetcar (trolley) passes through historic neighborhoods its way downtown and to the French Quarter, the center of the city's cultural life. Take the streetcar to the Quarter in the afternoon, stay for nightlife - and a cab ride home is about $15.

24 hour passes for unlimited travel on streetcars and busses are $3.00.

Dining, shopping, coffee houses and exercise are also within walking distance of the house. It's three blocks to historic Audubon Park and its world-renowned zoo and swamp exhibit.

New Orleans - famous for music, cuisine and joie de vive - is a romantic and unique city. Some say it is not an American city, but a Mediterranean-Caribbean-African mix that has resulted in a culture and approach to life unlike any other. It is a favorite stop of European visitors who find it to be something different and authentic in the U.S.

Outdoors activities are outside the city and are focused on wetlands adventures, including kayaking and canoeing in the surrounding cypress swamps and river basins, airboat tours, world-class fishing (everything from tuna to tarpon to bass), walking along the levees or just strolling the neighborhoods and French Quarter.

About Our Family

Bob is an environmental journalist and Marie is an educator who owns an operates a small business that teaches people about the Louisiana wetlands in kayaks and boats. We are both outdoors enthusiasts who spend as much time as possible in nature.

Lifestyle

We have a small kayaking company the does environmental education in the Louisiana swamps. The company operates out of two rooms on the first floor of the house that are separate from the living space. Photos here were taken on our paddling trips. More information on the company can be found at our website: http://lostlandstours.org/
