Open for exchange
Exchange dates Duration
June 16, 2019 - October 31, 2020 2 weeks

We are open to all offers, both in Europe and in North America. We prefer to be in the centre of large cities, but we also enjoy a country experience. Please make us an offer if you are interested in visiting Canada, as some of our best travel experiences have been to places which we never thought of visiting.

Two Homes: Downtown Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast, BC, Canada

We have two homes available for simultaneous or non-simultaneous exchange: One is a high-rise condo on the waterfront in Yaletown, Vancouver, a very popular and central area of the city. On the 29th floor, it has a panoramic view of False Creek and the city to the east, south and west from every room, with the seawall at the front door. The condo is 1400 sq ft, with an open floor plan, a large master with walk-in closet and master bath with a soaker tub and separate shower. Our condo is well furnished, with original art and a gourmet kitchen, including a grill on the gas range, 3 large tvs, and a/c. The second bedroom has been converted into a TV room with a 60" flat screen with a queen sofa bed. The area contains many trendy restaurants, brew pubs, the seawall, and is two short blocks to our subway station, which covers the downtown area and goes directly to the airport. This condo puts you in the heart of the city, with everything at your fingertips. The first seven photos are of the condo; the rest are of our second property.

Our second home is on five acres on the Sunshine Coast on the mainland, a 40 minute ferry ride north of Vancouver. This house is 2700 sq feet, with panoramic views of Sechelt Inlet and the Coastal mountain range. This house is designed very much like the condo, with a large open plan living area, gourmet kitchen with stovetop grill, master bedroom with walk-in closet and ensuite, with a separate shower, all of which face the view. We have a guest room with a separate bath, and a studio with a sofa bed. Most importantly, we have a large outdoor heated swimming pool and hot tub which also takes in the view. My husband is a master gardener, so the grounds are beautifully landscaped with shrubs and trees. Similarly, this home is well furnished with original art. This house provides a serene, rural setting to enjoy a laid-back lifestyle, while the area is a recreational playground: kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing.

Depending on the time of year, one or the other home could be available for exchange or rent. Non-simultaneous works well for us as well. A bi-weekly cleaning can be arranged at either property in a reciprocal agreement.

About Our Family

We are a married couple, without children, both retired from teaching careers: Chuck was a high school art teacher and Roslyn was an English instructor at college. We both enjoy recreational travelling, including long distance walking and cycling trips, especially in Europe, and we really enjoy both large cities and the countryside. We are interested in Santa Monica and San Francisco this winter, as we are wintering in Southern California, but  we  are open to any offers which will take us to new places--some of our best holidays have been to places we had not considered going to before being offered an exchange there. Our travel schedule is very flexible, as we are retired.

Lifestyle

Vancouver consistently ranks as #1 or #2 most liveable cities in the world. Its natural beauty and cosmopolitan culture attracts people from all over the world and, as a result, the city is enriched by the many cultures which call Vancouver home. The city has an amazing variety of ethnic restaurants and markets reflecting Vancouver's multicultural diversity, all set in a sophisticated, urban setting, with museums, galleries, theatres, surrounded by calm, sandy beaches and magnificent mountains within the city limits. The climate is mild year round and is truly a city where one can sail and ski in the same day during the winter months. The city also has many beautiful parks and gardens for leisurely strolls, including our famous Stanley Park in the heart of the downtown area; the local mountains have numerous hiking trails for more strenuous activities. In short, Vancouver is a great city to enjoy a combination of urban and recreational living. The city also has become famous for its high quality but very affordable restaurants and for its local Okanagan wines and microbrewery beers. From this location, you have easy access into the North Shore mountains and to Whistler, the site of the 2010 Olympics, which is about 2 hours away by car. Ferry access to the Gulf and Vancouver Islands and to Victoria also is easy, as is the ferry to the Sunshine Coast, which is considered one of the most beautiful rural areas in the province, with many outdoor activities at your fingertips. Travel magazines all rate our area as tops in natural beauty, amenities, recreational activities, and for sightseeing.
